“Can barcode scanners be wrong?” Dale asked me when we went to the grocery store last night. It must be the fast processing of the Cashier that prompted her to question me. I told her a barcode reader contains decoder circuitry with a 100% accuracy. Mistake can be made if the data provided by the barcode content is wrong itself or inconsistent with the actual price of the product. Error will be on the part of encoding the price with the corresponding bar code or on printing of barcodes but never on its reading. Dale listened carefully to my explanation .. I hope she really understood me.
